Blair, English bigots & Tory Woes
Hahaha massive bawbag Tony Blair is cancelling his next signing event, nothing at all to do with the shoes, bottles and eggs that were thrown at him in Dublin of course. I'm liking the reshelving protest too - nice and childish.
Fat faced goon Rod Liddle writes about Scotland like well the English prick he is. Seems he's not alone in his anti-Scottish sentiments - independence, whether good or bad, looms closer I think. Mind you Salmond has retreated on his referendum pledge presumably thinking a wait will allow the coalition stink to ferment a little longer.
Amusing troubles for our Tory masters these days, the NOTW/Coulson phone hacking shenanigans have resurfaced again after the detailed NYT piece and Willy Hague found himself on the receiving end of Guido's particular brand of shitraking. Not that Fawkes has been put off by the tut-tutting with a sneering post today and a pic of the twin bedroom Hague supposedly shared with his driver.

Mystery House & Rocky Road
Breakdown, starring Kurt Russell & J.T. Walsh, is a competent road thriller about a missing wife and a desperate husband stonewalled in his search by some intransigent locals. Though it's plenty ridiculous it's taut and the acting is strong so it, mostly, keeps you from mulling over the gaping plot holes. Shame writer/director Mostow followed it up with a string of big budget turkeys like U571, T3 and Surrogates.

Genre yammerings
Some interesting artwork from the now aborted Dune remake. Io9 & Jock's siteDel Toro is working on his adaptation of Lovecraft's Mountains of Madness and, according to Empire, is considering Cruise or McAvoy for the lead. It's not due to shoot till next May so he's got plenty of time to change his mind though.
M.Night Shyamalanga ding dong is finally making some moves for a sequel to Unbreakable - his only decent film. The best bit about the news is he isn't going to write or direct it. Thanks Cinematical.

The new Judge Dredd film casting continues - Kiwi Karl Urban is already confirmed as Dredd and now they've snagged a Judge Anderson in Olivia Thirlby. Simply called Dredd it's being pitched as a neo-noir action film and with both writer Alex Garland and director Pete Travis being British I'm quite hopeful though it won't take much to surmount the Sly's 90's version. Via Den of Geek.
I watched The Sorcerers not that long ago - a bit of a dud but it had promise, someone else seems to think so and it looks like heading for a remake. Shame they're eyeing up Danny fucktard Dyer for a role. io9
The Great Antidote
Uh-oh looks like polar shifts might not take 5000 years after all - according to new research it might take just 4. Eek. NS
Chimps from Bossou, Guinea appear to be outsmarting hunters by deliberately deactivating snares. Beeb
Evidence for panspermia in the Red Rain that occurred over Kerala? Indian scientists think they've evidence for non-terrestrial cells but I'm skeptical.
Some German scientists have discovered cerebral cortex like structures in marine worms - an important piece in the evolutionary history of our own. Via Science Daily.

Lions & Fishies
The original Dante/Sayles Piranha is a bit of a cult classic, the remake, well, not so much, it's entertaining enough and sure there's plenty of blood spilled and there's some - obviously skint - decent actors in it but it's adolescently festooned with the lovely ladies and there's roughly a gazillion plotholes throughout but these trivial gripes are nothing compared to the crass commerciallity (sic) of the ending, it's the most abrupt, obvious sequel-baiting finale I've ever seen. I dunno, if Aja had spent just 10 mins tying up the plot strands this could have been something decent. Harumph.

Usual Political Stoma Bag
As much as I dislike Guido's personal politics you've got to give him kudos for chasing down shit no matter what colour the stripe is and his digging into this story bout Willy Hague's hunky driver getting a FO job and sharing his hotel room is commendable.
Some American was offended by our condescending attitude towards the US and tries to explain why 1 in 5 'Mericans think Obama is a Muslim. Poor sod he's on a Sisyphean task what with Glenn Beck's mass huddle of idiots in DC at the weekend. Sure Beck's a cartoonish Mormon rabblerouser but he's effective, a pan piper for the unthinking, too harsh? well watch this clip from the Daily Dish and you might change your mind. I've seen the interviewer before on bits like this - he needs an award for keeping a straight face.
Seems like there's a campaign under way to get Colbert to repeat Beck's event at the Lincoln Memorial - after his triumphant performance at the Whitehouse Correspondents Dinner
Ahh Tony Blair, forked tongued warmonger, has finally released his bullshit memoirs and no doubt it'll derail Labour further. The leadership contenders should really think about putting the boot into Blair like they've done with Mandelson, after all it was his duplicity that lead them to defeat.
